Fundamentals of the Hitch Kick Technique for Long Jump
This drill teaches the basic long jump hitch kick technique. To help the athlete create height, use our 2 box set up. The first box is approximately 4 inches in height with a second box approximately 8 inches height and roughly three feet in between. The basic progression of teaching the hitch kick technique should be a punch-punch-press. For the left footed jumper, focus on punching the right knee, then actively punching their left knee, and then bringing both legs out in front of them into a landing position. Notice as the athlete goes into the finish, they're going to reach high with both arms and press their chest and knees together.
