How to Pole Vault: Walking Hang Drill

This is a walking hang drill for the pole vault. Here you want the athlete to start with the pole directly next to them and reaching up as high as they can on the pole to know where their hand grip should be. From this point they can simply grip up a couple of inches. The athlete walks and learns to hang on the top. A very common problem with beginning pole vaulters is it they want to pull with the top and there should be no pulling or tension trying to pull their body up with the right hand. This drill is teaching an athlete how to hang on the top arm, which is going to create a position where they can then eventually swing correctly.
