How to Pole Vault: Standing Plant Drills Pole Drop Bounce and Roll

This is a stationary drop, bounce, and roll out drill. You can see here that the athlete is letting the pole tip drop extending their hands as high as they can in a proper take off position. After the tip of the pole hits the ground, the athlete is guiding the pole out into the left for a right-handed pole vaulter. This is clearing the pole out of the way so an athlete can eventually swing through the entire vault. The other part of this drill is teaching the athlete how to keep their swing leg or free leg in a back position. It's very important to keep the trail leg behind you creating an inverted c through the take off.
