Developing a High Jump Approach: Short Approach to Curve Drill

This is a short approach to curve, a drill used in the high jump. This short approach will show you how to create a beginning level 4 step short approach run. It will be easiest for an athlete to start on a line, knowing that in this line, they are already on the curve of the jump. For a left footed jumper, their first step is already crossing over their body. After there is a consistent take-off, measure over to the line that the athlete started on, measuring back to where the athlete started. That distance is transferred to the high jump apron to determine the starting point for a beginning level high jumper.
