World Athletics Championships Scored by US College Affiliation
There are countless places for world class athletes to develop in preparation for the world’s largest stage in track and field. In 2017, that stage was the IAAF World Athletics Championships in London, England, and it appears that the prominent preparation stage is as a collegiate team member in NCAA Track and Field.
The US collegiate system develops talent from several different nations. Many college programs have the facilities, the coaching, the medical support, and most importantly, the stage to develop these athletes for an extended period of time, some even as a post collegian. NCAA track and field is arguably the minor league for many track and field athletes from all over the world, especially the SEC and PAC 12 conferences, with those teams making up the entire top ten list. Hats off to the universities that have helped these athletes get to the top.
With that being said, have you ever wondered what the score of the World Championships would be based on NCAA affiliation? That question is answered below, including both men and women with a traditional scoring format. (10-8- 6-5- 4-3- 2-1). Relay points are divided by 4 whether the athlete ran in the prelim or final.
Governing bodies and fans around the world take notice and continue to support NCAA track and field. These programs are the future of the sport!
