TRACKWIRED POWER RANKINGS: 2-8-18
Is Pennsylvania the most powerful high school indoor track and field state in the country? Our Trackwired high school power rankings say YES! Pennsylvania has landed the top spot on both the girls and boys lists in our week 3 of the our power rankings.
In the girls state team standings, depth across all events is the name of the game highlighted by Girard High School Junior Thelma Davies in the sprints and Gabrielle Wilkinson from Friends Central in the distance events. The sprint sensation Davies is ranked in the top 3 nationally in both the 60 and 200 meters running 7.45 and 23.89 respectively, while middle-distance star Wilkinson is ranked #1 nationally in 3 events: 1000m, 1500m and mile while also holding on to the #3 spot in the 800m. This duo and the terrific relay numbers are all the reasons why our data points to the Quaker state as the wk #3 best state in the country for high school track and field.
On the boys side, the Pennsylvania boys have 14 events ranked above a .95 Trackwired Power Ranking. This means they have 14 events that are within 5% of the respective high school national record in that event. Talk about depth! Every event in Pennsylvania has a quality mark. 21.23 in the 200m by Austin Kratz, 2:24 National Leader in the 1k by Hoey. 6-11 high jump by decathlete Kyle Garland. You name it and Pennsylvania has it, sprints, jumps, distance and relays. Can they hold on to the top spot as the best track and field state in the country. The data right now says, YES!!
